Song Baoliang is the current vice-president of Wuhan University (WHU). He is a member of the Communist Party of China. Born in January 1975, heholdsa PhD,acts asa PhD supervisor andisa member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He is also theheadof different academicunitsin WHU, includingtheCollege of Life Sciences,theTaikang Medical School (School of Basic Medical Sciences), andtheTaikang Life Sciences Center.

His research focuseson cholesterol metabolism,and he has madea series ofsignificantoriginal discoveries. He has clarified the molecular pathway of cholesterol absorptioninthesmall intestine, revealed a regulatorypathway of cholesterol synthesis, discovered a new pathway and approachtointracellular cholesterol transport, and identified the novel cholesterol-modified protein, all of which have provided new ideas and theoretical foundation for the research and development of hypolipidemic agents. As a corresponding author, he has published more than 50 papersin journals such asNature,ScienceandCell. His research findings have beenselectedtwice for inclusionin China’s Top 10 Advances in Life Sciences. He hasreceivedthe Tan Kah Kee Young Scientist Award, the China Youth Science and Technology Award,the Xplorer Prizeand others. He also serves as the vice-president of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology, and the leader of the expert group of the major research plan “spatiotemporal network regulation of glycolipid metabolism” supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
