Academician Li Deren becomes China’s first recipient of the Brock Gold Medal Award

During the 2022 Congress of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) in Nice, France,Academician Li Deren received theBrock Gold Medal Awardfor hislandmarkachievementsinphotogrammetry, remote sensing and geo-spatial information sciences. Li isthe firstChinesetoreceivethis honor.

During the quadrennial ISPRS Congress, scholars, engineers, entrepreneurs andmanagersfrom photogrammetry, remote sensing, geo-spatial information science and other related fields all over the world gathered both online and offlinetodiscussfuture developmentof the fieldunder thetitle of“Imaging today, foreseeing tomorrow”.

During the congress,Professor Christian Heipke,President oftheISPRS,hosted the opening ceremony and announcedthe awarding of the Brock Gold Medal toLi Deren,and together with Professor Charles Toth, Vice President of the ISPRS,presentedthe awardtohim.

“This honor belongs not only to me, but also to my team, my university and my country. In the future, we will continue to use photogrammetry and remote sensing technology to provide human society with faster, more accurate, reliable and intelligent spatial information services,” Li Derensaidin a video message, expressing his gratitude.

The Brock Gold Medal Award,established andfundedby the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), is givenevery four yearsto ascientistwho has madeoutstanding contributions to photogrammetry, remote sensing and geo-spatial information sciences, andisone ofthe most prestigiousawardsin the field.

The conference includedtenkeynotespeechesand nearly 70 academic and technicalsessions, coveringacademicand technicalfrontiers, innovations and successful applications in the fields of sensors, photogrammetry, remote sensing, geo-spatial information sciences, and educationalcooperation.Technicaltraining, technologicalexhibitionsand software competitionswere also organized.
